Volunteers and Interns serve with diligence, pride and dedication and they continue to introduce new ideas, a fresh outlook, and an invigorating spirit to our workforce. Their contributions are highly valued and greatly appreciated by the Police Department and the community it serves. Currently, our active, highly diverse, volunteer corps numbers approximately 150. Volunteers are involved in nearly all aspects of the department’s operations, from training to communications. They work side by side in support of the line officers, command staff and civilian employees.
Intern Applicant Requirements
MCPD offers unpaid internships throughout the year, with a minimum commitment. The duration of the internship may be extended based upon the intern’s performance and/or the length of time needed to complete the project. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, however, the review/application process is approximately 12 weeks.
Intern Position FAQ's
The exciting opportunities offered through the program, are designed to create awareness and increase knowledge through the observation of law enforcement activities and interaction with personnel.
- Requires a commitment of 6 months, working an average 8-12 hours per week (Monday-Friday between 8am-4pm)
- Availability of internships are dependent upon the needs of the department
- Interns are selected on a competitive basis
- School credit may be earned depending upon your program/institution
- Candidates are subject to, and must pass, a criminal background check
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or possess a valid green card
- Ability to participate in training operations.
- Assist police officers with alcohol enforcement efforts.
- Assist police officers with underage cigarette/alcohol purchases.
- Assist officers at special community events such as the County Fair and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Hiring Process
All applicants must go through the selection process, which consists of tests and investigations that help the department select applicants who are best suited for Public Safety Emergency Communications Specialist positions.
